A Hidden Talent

Saturday, July 31st, 2010

My family really enjoys listening and playing music.  My son has fortunately picked up on this great passion.  He has been taking lessons to better his skill of playing the guitar.  Also, he is being educated on the fabulous technique of playing blues guitar licks.  Even more, I just now realized that my husband’s uncle loves to play any instrument he can get his hands on.  This is great for my son, because his uncle is very familiar with the guitar.  We were not aware of his talent, because my husband’s uncle lives on the other side of the country, and we rarely keep in touch.  Everyone is just so busy.  Nevertheless, his hidden talent is a great surprise to us.

My Favorite Actor in Movies

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Gosh, I have so many favorite actors that it is hard to choose just one. One of my favorites just has to be Edward Norton. He is a great character actor and his movies just take me away. My two favorite flicks that he did were “The Score” and “The Painted Veil”.  Both displayed a talented character actor. I could see him winning an award for either one of them. “The Score” with Robert Dinero was more popular than “The Painted Veil”, but they both were extremely awesome. They are both the type of movie you could watch over and over again.

Family Portraits Needed

Wednesday, July 28th, 2010

I was on my way to work when my cell phone rang. I placed the call to speaker phone and found that my mother was seemingly agitated about the fact that we had not been together as a family to have a portrait taken in some time. I told my mother that I agreed that it would be nice to have the family together for a family portrait. After hanging up, I set out to find reputable los angeles family photographers who would be able to take our family portrait with in the next two weeks. Once I found one, I called my mother back with the great news.

Great wedding photographers

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

My daughter recently hired some Chicago wedding photographers to cover her two day wedding event.  One of them is a photojournalist who worked as a newspaper photographer and he has a keen eye for candid photos and details.  He’s also going to create a wedding slideshow for her to present at the wedding reception.  That will feature the bride and groom as kids, growing up and dating.  If you’re like my daughter, having a qualified photographer to capture all the moments should be at the top of your list.

What to do when your music class won’t listen

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

When a music class won’t listen or continually doesn’t pay attention when you are speaking it is time that you identified your classroom management strategies and started to really manage yourself. Once you manage yourself and your own state, you can then hope to influence others. If you’re under control and you speak quietly and efficiently you’ll have their attention. The problem for music teachers is that there are so many distractions. when you actually have their attention what will happen is that someone will ask a question, or you’ll have to do something like tune a guitar, fix a broken string or find a part and before you know it you’ll have bedlam again. You may find it helpful to also use some Music Games for the Classroom to reward positive behavior at the end of the class.

My Best Friend

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

During high school I would always watch music TV stations. I would always admire how the guitarists got so into their music that you could see their heart and body was all in to it. It was like I could see their passion for music coming through their performance.

I decided to take my paycheck and go get myself a guitar. Is was a beautiful red color. I did not know how to play at all. my friend from school would give me mini lessons everyday after school. He even helped me get my guitar scales right and I will be forever grateful for that.

Choppy Technique

Wednesday, July 21st, 2010

I am having problems with alternate picking. I seem to stroke the wrong string when I pick. When I play, I have to constantly look at my picking hand to find the right string. I end up feeling like I will never be a good guitarist. I told my girlfriend how I feel and she said that there has to be alternate picking guide that can help me. That night, I took my girlfriend’s advice and searched online for a solution. After looking over a few book reviews on alternate picking, I came across alternate picking fast start. I immediately purchase it.

Card Making is Fun

Tuesday, July 20th, 2010

Card making can be a fun and exciting project for adults and children alike. This is a great way for children to learn. You could have them make a thank you card for a babysitter or friend. This teaches them appreciation and art at the same time. It is also good bonding time for you and your child. If you have an older child, you could get them started and then handle something around the house that need to be done.  This activity can be done at home or on the road. It would make a great way to pass time on a long road trip.

Keeping It Light

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

I love it when a serious singer releases silly songs for kids. It shows the public that they have a comedic side that they are not ashamed to show. Lisa L. released a silly song album for kids and we love it! Her “pancake song” has become a household favorite. It is so important to be ourselves around kids, to show them that being silly and letting go is good and healthy. Nothing speaks more to people than music. There is a song for everything, for breakups, makeups, death, money, the list could go on and on. We need more silly songs in our day.
